Controller's Comments

The day went really well and thanks to planner Adrian Barnes for fitting in some surprisingly long and challenging courses. He also agreed to make most (but not all) of my suggested modifications. We never quite agreed about Control 714 (used on Blue and Brown) but it will be remapped "slightly" for the next event. The going was very heavy underfoot (especially round the top woods and old racecourse) but the times were generally about right given some of the limitations of the area. The Orange course proved most troublesome, restricted by the difficulty of crossing the How Burn in the east. Thanks to the numerous landowners involved for permission to run in new and unexplored bits of woodland - I think competitors were genuinely surprised that Morpeth had such an area on offer. Many of the mistakes (and disqualifications) were made on some of the "easiest" controls - always check your control code and work out what direction to travel after punching.
