Planner's Notes
Many thanks to those of you who took the time to say they enjoyed their courses — despite the mud !
Apologies for any confusion over the direction of North on the 1:7,500 scale map — the only way to fit the area into an A4 sheet was to rotate it by about 30 degrees. If (when) I have to do that again, I‘ll make sure that we put up notices to that effect at Registration and the Start. We did have a blank map for inspection but, somehow, it didn‘t get displayed.
I train over this area quite regularly (living just off the left had side of the map) and think that High House Woods is a delightful little area. I explained to a couple of people willing to listen to my ramblings that most times when we orienteer we are within a narrow corridor unaware of the area to left and right, so if we can find a way to link these ”corridors• of woodland together it makes quite enjoyable orienteering.
Having the estate between the Common and the woods allows some interesting route choice — as the Light Green to Brown courses discovered. The depth of the valleys in the woods allows other choices to be set on how to cross them.
I hope not too many people were inconvenienced by control EH being removed by person or persons unknown — thanks to Neil and Sheila for reporting it missing so promptly and enabling me to put out a replacement.
I was able to keep the Yellow and Orange courses on the Common itself, although we hadn‘t expected quite so many football matches to present themselves as hazards. The stone posts and manhole covers make interesting changes from the normal succession of path junctions and fences usually used as control sites for these courses.

Controller's Notes
Thank you everybody for coming along to Morpeth — the event raised over £250 for the Great North Air Ambulance. It‘s a service we hope we never have to use at one of our more remote events.
It was a cold day for the helpers but we were able to pack up just after 1 o‘clock when the last runner on the Brown finally staggered in. A few early runners were disadvantaged when one of the controls near the finish was vandalised (removed).
Adrian Barnes set some demanding courses as usual — everyone from Light Green to Brown was probably amazed when they saw a leg stretching from one end of the area to the other! The woods are wet and muddy but fast running over the common should have levelled out the times. A few competitors were careless in their punching — make sure you read the code and the control description first.
