Controller's Comment
"Thank you to all the competitors for coming. I hope you enjoyed this little corner of Morpeth. The woods are really nice at this time of year. They get too nettly in the summer which is very unpleasant.
I was very impressed with the two UDOC Toms for getting maximum points in the Score. If you could e-mail me the order you got the controls I'll be interested and we can share that with the other competitors. Although not present today due to running for England in Germany, Jonathan Malley did the bulk of the planning and I put the finishing touches and added the points values. The values of controls on the score were planned to give you lots of choice to accumulate points.
Three competitors on the Score punched in the order they visited controls rather than in the relevant boxes. that made it quite difficult to calculate. I tried to get it right but it's your own fault if I didn't ! Apologies to the Orange course competitors for the rather muddy section in the woods. I thought that going down there would make it a bit more interesting and I hope you think it was worth it.
A word of advice to the younger Yellow competitors who slavishly followed the broken fence between controls 2 and 3. It must have been quite difficult as the undergrowth is a bit thick there. Remember that you don't need to be in touching distance to follow the line of a fence/stream/wall etc. just so long as you can see it and run parallel to it is fine.

Organiser's Comment
A good turnout on a cold grey day considering the other orienteering options available. Many thanks to Peter and Carole on Registration, Richard and Fred on Starts and Graham who was co-opted onto Finish with me. Courses were partially planned by the Malleys, but Jonathan was away in Germany running for England! Adrian finalised courses and Controlled, braving the woods at night to get controls out. This gave me the chance to run as well as organise, and I was able to appreciate an excellent Score event with good route choice. UDOC are starting to get together an excellent group of runners, with the two Tom's gaining maximum points. More by chance than skill I hit on a good route that took me to all but three controls - I was very glad of spikes on the more slippery slopes. With hindsight I could have had another 5 points if I had run to No 1 first. Route taken was 6 13 17 21 20 12 11 26 16 19 23 27 10 18 22 5 2 15 14 9 25 8 3 4 - 24 was beyond my fitness level and 7 just too far at the end. Start and finish clocks were 2 seconds out and sympathy to Dave Raymond who reckoned he did 59.59 while I timed him at 60.03 (really 60.01)! Sympathy also to Bob Cooper who discovered that trainers were not up to the job (O-shoes at home ready to go) and as a consequence suffered a severe muscle strain.
