Planner’s comments.

Thanks for coming to a sunny Morpethian evening. Sorry I can’t guarantee such good weather every time. Actually, most of my events are plagued with bad to devastating weather as Fred will testify !

The Score event provoked some difference of views about which was the best way to go and if it was possible to visit them all in the time allowed. My view is that perhaps an international class orienteer could. In the event no-one got close. Even Patrick bottled out of going right out to the A1 flyover for the 60 pointer ! My severe penalty promise also succeeded in getting you all back on time, too.

Some discussion was generated by some on the Wayfarer’s course, too about which Lamp Post was intended at some of the controls. I tried to mark and describe the control feature closely enough to avoid any doubt, but……. I’ve allowed all answers, although I may go back and check on a training run sometime. I planned it all on my training over the last few weeks.

It’s interesting just how difficult orienteering through streets and paths can be although at first sight it appears much easier than interpreting intricate contours etc. The element of being able to cover the ground much faster and constantly changing direction adds a different challenge as well as trying to pick out the quickest route at all for some legs. Wayfarers 3-4 and 5-6 had interesting choices. Did you see the others and are you sure yours was the quickest ?

From what you all said, I think you enjoyed it. I had fun planning it.

Adrian Barnes.
