Welcome to the BSOC Training Day 2009 take II -an event that nearly didn't happen but in the end seemed to satisfy the needs.
Losing the planner late meant I had to step in to plan (from Controller) and we decided to reuse the courses from the British Schools Training day last year - remembering that that was done to mimic the sort of courses Adrian was putting on at Druridge the following day and the target audience then was schoolchildren there were a few things I'd have done differently - but it sufficed and was possible despite my other commitments. Losing controls 61 (to a fishing match - the anglers tell me that someone still punched it even though it was void) and 33 (to a fun fair - apologies to the two juniors who punched it in my hand while I was relocating it) on the day made life a little more interesting but were easily resolved. The thirty minute score proved a challenge - timing was based on Colin Matheson's run last year when he completed all the controls in "a little over half an hour" (I think it was about 33 minutes) and only two people got all the controls (one with penalties), which made it a different challenge to those where it is the fastest of several complete bags that wins. My thanks to Elaine for helping get the course out and to Patrick and Paul for helping bring it in again. A special word for those who noticed that a control had the description "boulder" and was on a boulder but there was no boulder on the map; please take it up with the original Controller - who I thank even though he wasn't actually at the event - or the mapper. Hope to see you all at Dipton (Organising time for me) and again at Plessey where I'm hoping to present a very different course as a dessert to John's main event - one I think you won't have seen before and which should challenge your ability to read a map and control descriptions (plus Countdown again)White 1.3 km.
