Planner's Comments
I hope everybody enjoyed their course despite the mixed weather.
Thanks to Fred’s recent mapping of the Brick Works area, this allowed some challenging legs to be put in at the end of the Long and Light Green courses. Fred advised some rerouting of the legs in this area based on his knowledge that the area would become overgrown with nettles and undergrowth by the end of June; he wasn’t wrong. There seems to be a particular pernicious variety that can penetrate all manner of legware.
It was also suggested that some of the controls in the urban areas were moved to minimise vandalism. Unfortunately, despite waiting to put the controls out until the morning of the event, there was one which got stolen (control 3 on the Long). The White, Yellow and Orange courses were kept to the south of Hospital Lane so that younger competitors wouldn’t have to negotiate the two potentially dangerous road crossings. Text based control descriptions are normally used on NATO courses but I decided to use pictorial descriptions for the Light Green and Long courses to give improving competitors who are moving up to the harder courses some experience of using these. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event happen and in particular to the Finish team who were doing this for the first time.

Controller's Comments
Percy Pit is an area with quite a few constraints, so I thought Frank did a good job of making the most of the area, particularly as he has not planned many events previously.
I must apologise for the delayed start. This was purely my fault, as due to a purely internal mixup, I failed to tell myself to collect the maps from our printer. Likewise, the wrong control code at 60 (control 3 on Yellow, 4 on Orange) was down to a combination of my poor eyesight and rain covered glasses - I misread code 60 for 66. Apologies to anybody affected by this.
Despite this, the people I spoke to seemed to enjoy themselves, even with the weather we had. We must try a stronger anti-rain incantation next time. As the Start and finish were in exposed open areas, a hearty thank you to both the Start and Finish teams, who withstood the frequent downpours with good heart.
It was good to see quite a few unfamiliar faces, some of them newcomers to the sport.
Fred Miller.
