Thanks for coming and apologies again about the late postponement of the Newcastle City race. From what I heard you all seem to have enjoyed the area and appreciated the challenges I set you. You will have noticed that all courses except the Juniors had a common core of the loops in the northernmost complex area which were linked with loops of varying length across the southern part. I put the longer route choice legs into the southern part as it was not so demanding of quick decision making but has enough natural barriers to make selecting a route a challenge. My aim was to intersperse those legs with shorter more difficult ones where to find any route you had to look hard and then make lots of quick turns to execute. Together with many changes of direction I tried to introduce as much variety as I could so that your rhythm was constantly interrupted and keep you interested the whole time.
Sorry that I couldn't make the Junior course more challenging for the 14s and 16s but there little scope for anything more than I had within the rule that you should not cross or run along roads. We didn't have the manpower to have manned crossings unfortunately. Having said that, I am very impressed by the speed at which the leaders ran the course. Even though it was relatively straightforward, you certainly ran it fast. Well done.
I thought that, having the facilities at the Social Club, it made sense to keep everything together - Registration, Start, Finish and Results as it would make for a good atmosphere. With the good weather as well, that seems to have worked and I hope you enjoyed the chance to sit and chat before and after your runs.
Our next Urban race is in September in Cramlington where the courses will be a bit longer as the area is larger. Not quite as complex but quite varied and should provide some interesting challenges. We are planning to stage the postponed Newcastle City Race next August.
Hope to see you all there.

I was pleased with how well this event went after our disappointment at not being able to stage the whole weekend of events.
The registration team arrived in good time, their desks were more professionally laid out than those in most offices I have been to! The start team quietly and efficiently handled large numbers of runners without any need for help. The finish / download team (or should that be person Paul) provided us with regular printed results, on our display board. Adrian although doing all the planning and control setting was invaluable as our overall coordinator. John and family helped with printing, first aid and general sagely advice.
The runners arrived in their droves its hard to believe that people will appear from the far flung corners but indeed they did.
The event arena worked out well, we had a good sheltered spot not that we needed shelter, with the weather being so good car park directly behind. Im glad to see runners made use of the social club facilities, especially the bar!
