A huge thank you to everyone that took part in the Redburn Event. A somewhat different type of format to what we are used to, but one that everyone seemed to enjoy. It was great to see everyone discussing their prologue runs before the final race. The speed and pressure of the final race was too much for a few competitors and the added distraction of chasing competitors meant there were a few mis-punches. The timings for the final event were not too far out, with most competitors arriving back within a 2 minute window. Congratulations to Jonny Malley who managed to overtake every competitors on his course, starting last and finishing first.
I have worked out the results for each of the individual races and then produced a combined result. Both races were of similar distance but it is clear from the results that the chasing sprint worked in that everyone's results were quicker in the second race.
Thank you to everyone who helped on the day whether it be registration, start team or control collecting. Also a special thanks to Adrian Barnes and Fred Miller who couldn't be with us on the day but gave me some guidance on the courses. It was the first time I had planned a Sprint event but I tried to ensure there was plenty going on with some route choice as well as changes in direction between controls. The Chasing Sprint element gave it an added twist. Hopefully we will run another one of these next year and get even more competitors. Spread the word as there seems to be a stigma attached with Sprint Orienteering. I certainly found it more entertaining and more social to a normal Orienteering event.
Thanks~Paul Boyles
